Starting with felt, then leather, she expanded her palette to include mesh, always paired with select, minimalist stainless steel elements. The bags appear as finely composed works of art, minimalist in design yet eye-catching in material and texture. Monika Assem seeks beauty in both small and large things, giving materials like mesh a new, elegant identity and thereby creating something unique in design and fashion. Awarded the Focus Design Prize, the Hessian State Prize, and the red dot among others, selected items are now part of the collection at the Museum of Applied Arts in Frankfurt.
